SONA - (Sustainable Organic & Natural Agriculture)

Regenerating Soil, Revitalising Farms, Renewing Futures
SONA at the Centre of Science for Villages (CSV) promotes chemical-free, regenerative, and nature-positive farming systems that restore soil health, enhance biodiversity, reduce input costs, and improve farmer incomes.

SONA works closely with farmers to demonstrate practical models of organic, natural, and ecological agriculture, integrating traditional knowledge with scientific approaches. The vertical supports diversified cropping systems, seed sovereignty, on-farm bio-input production, water-efficient practices, and integrated livestock and agroforestry models.

A key focus of SONA is strengthening the entire farm-to-market continuum-from production and post-harvest management to certification, aggregation, and market linkages for sustainably produced food.

Key Focus Areas

  1. Regenerative and natural farming practices
  2. oil health restoration and carbon sequestration
  3.  Indigenous seed conservation and multiplication
  4. Water-smart agriculture and climate adaptation
  5. On-farm bio-inputs and low-cost technologies
  6. Organic certification and traceability

SONA emphasizes farmer-led learning through field demonstrations, training programmes, and peer-to-peer exchanges, supported by digital advisory tools.

Through these efforts, SONA aims to build resilient agricultural landscapes that ensure food security, nutritional diversity, and dignified livelihoods for farming communities.
